Rich red wines from Pindar vineyards

Pindar Vineyards is one of Long Island’s most iconic wineries with wine lovers of all ages flocking for their extensive wine selection.

Sometimes you just want a deep, dark, delicious red – not a light, lyrical red wine, but a bold, full-bodied red, smothered in flavors and silky tannins that can soften the rough edges of a tough day, or week, or month, or year. A wine buyer’s first impulse probably wouldn’t be to check out the Long Island wine section of their local wine store, and it certainly wouldn’t be to look for a Pindar wine, but they’d be wrong – very wrong. .

Pindar Vineyards is well known for its fun, affordable and often sweet, semi-sweet or semi-dry wines. But at the bottom of the vineyard’s tasting menu are two wines that should be at the top of any wine lover‘s list: Merlot Réserve 2019 and Cabernet Sauvignon Réserve 2019.

Let’s start with the Merlot Réserve 2019. This Merlot is tempered with a small amount of three other noble grape varieties: 9.2% Syrah, 1% Cabernet Sauvignon, 0.2% Malbec. These little additions really allow the 89.6% Merlot to sing. Lush notes of berries, spice and toast enhance this velvety wine. This wine can accompany a steak or a hearty Italian dish, but it also drinks beautifully on its own. In fact, on its own, it’s truly a soul-soothing red.

The next wine, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Réserve, is an elegant yet muscular expression of Cabernet. This wine is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon full of ripe yet bright cherry, dark berry and toasted vanilla flavors. Again, this is a wine that can be drunk on its own, but just a bit lighter than merlot, still not light, this wine will pair beautifully with steaks, barbecue and hearty Italian dishes. Want to elevate a meal as simple as pizza? To be enjoyed with a bottle of this wine.

Both the 2019 Merlot Reserve and the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve sell for $34.99, and both are worth it.
