Vedema 2022: ‘Selene’ will devote two days to Santorini wines in September

Vedema, Santorini’s famous wine fair, will take place at Restaurant Selene September 23-24.⁠

Inspired by the creator of Selene, Giorgos Hatzigiannakis and his wife Evelyn, the exhibition is known for bringing together all of Santorini’s wine producers under one roof. This year, Vedema will be a two day event dedicated to the unique wines and gastronomy of the island. Vedema 2022 will also include a photo exhibition.

Scheduled to take place at the halls of Selene in Fira, the event will feature two days full of world-class wines, experiential masterclasses, local producers, stunning photography and a unique 6-handed menu inspired by the restaurant’s long history. .

– Masterclass on wine at the Saint-Joseph wine cellar

Two wine masterclasses will take place inside the Saint-Joseph de Selene wine cellar, during which guests will have the rare opportunity to be guided through a truly unique wine tasting experience.

The first masterclass (1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.) will be presented by Yiannis Karakasis MW and Caro Maurer MW, two renowned Masters of Wine. They will compare Assyrtiko from Santorini to German Riesling, under the guidance of the masters themselves.

Karakasis, a true expert on the Santorini wine scene, will lead the second masterclass (5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.) and explore the aging process of the famous Santorini Assyrtiko.

– Photo Exhibition “Cyclades: Expressions of Light”

After the two wine masterclasses, an intriguing photo exhibition curated by Zoe Hatzigiannakis will open the same evening in the imposing Selene lobby (7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.).

Dedicated to the founder of Selene, Giorgos Hatzigiannakis and his wife Evelyn, the exhibition “Cyclades: Expressions of Light” will present the other face of Santorini through the works of talented Greek photographers, such as Panos Kokkinias, Stratos Kalafatis and Efi Haliori .

Two different projects will take place to introduce guests to the unique wines of Santorini, as well as the history of the iconic Selene.

A one-day wine exhibition will be held in St. Joseph’s Wine Cellar, titled Vedema 2022, where local winemakers will present their unique wines to the public. “Vedema” is an Italian word, mainly used on the island of Santorini to describe the grape harvest.

– “Selene, a journey through time” – Dinner with 6 hands

The two-day event will culminate with a unique 6-hand, 13-course dinner titled “Selene, A Journey Through Time” at Selene Restaurant.

The evening will see two of Greece’s most esteemed culinary creators, Thodoris Papanikolaou and Panos Tsikas, who have worked at Selene in the past, join forces with Michelin-starred chef Ettore Botrini to bring a menu inspired by Selene’s story to life. and the late Giorgos. Hatzigiannakis, creator of the iconic restaurant.
