Fans of Italian food in the Phoenix metro area are likely familiar with the delicious menu on offer at one of the state’s three North Italia restaurants. It was originally designed by famed Arizona restaurateur Sam Fox in 2002. If you haven’t had the luxury of visiting a northern Italian property, there’s good news! The modern Italian concept took the city of Gilbert by storm, opening the doors to their fourth location in Arizona on September 22.

The modern industrial look of northern Italy

The modern industrial aesthetic has certainly made its way into the restaurant industry. It seems to pop up everywhere, and North Italia is the latest to use the popular interior design theme in their new location in Gilbert. If you look around the restaurant you will see a number of subtle features that tie the whole atmosphere together. Some of my favorite items are the large Edison style bulbs which are used as a sort of chandelier with a smaller bulb that lights up the interior. In addition, the metal bars that serve as an accent on the cabins add a nice little touch to the ambience.

Well done Italian cuisine

While there are a lot of menu items that I could have highlighted in this article, there were two in particular that deserve a little more recognition. First of all, you won’t go wrong ordering the Italian meatballs as a starter. It may sound simple enough by the title, but these

large meatballs are served on a deliciously creamy polenta and topped with marinara sauce. The suit makes my mouth water just by recounting my experience. In order not to discredit the wonderful starters from North Italia, I would like to spend this part of the evening with everyone’s favorite dish… dessert. The salted caramel budino was to die for. This is a butterscotch pudding base covered with salted caramel and topped with gianduja crumble, sea salt and whipped cream. It was like they were giving us a trophy for all the great meals we had. Needless to say, we didn’t need a take out box for this culinary gem. Heck, we barely needed a spoon.
